New school new look

This is my new style and I love it! crochet braids with janet collection toyokalon hair called dreadloc braid. It was a total of $20 for 4 packs. You cant tell but there is a few red locs in there as well. I have gotten so many black people that acutally ask me if it is my real hair. This picture shows me a month into the style. I have not slept with a scarf or bonnet on once! This style took me a total of 3 hours!! Definitely a new fav :)
My new school is Milligan College Johnson City, TN!!

  1. Your hair looks amazing!!! Really great job! I am hoping to try this style as well but I don't know how to do it. I saw the hair but I'm not sure what the process is to go about actually creating the style. Do you braid it at the root? Then what? It looks great and I really want to try it but I can't find anywhere online that tells/shows you how. Thank you so much! And goodluck in your new school! Congrats!

  2. Ok I used the crotchet braiding method to do this style. Basically I cornrowed my own hair (adding just a tad bit of fake hair) into a beehive shape for the crown and horizontal rows at the nape of my neck. Then I used a crochet needle and attached the hair to the cornrow by making a loop and knotting it once. This hair is pretty big so you dont need to line up the loops side by side. Its better to make spaces inbetween installments of hair. There are a few good tutorials on youtube about how to install crochet braids. I skipped some rows because it was just too much hair. The key is to start with a moderate amount of hair and then fill in any gaps until you get the desired fullness. You dont have to do anything to the ends, I just cut the bangs after I had attached all the hair. The videos that I watched to learn this method were informative but I did not really like the final look of any of the girls' hair. I guess the second really important key to this style is how you cornrow your own hair first. That sets the tone for how the hair will lay or frame your face. I didnt want my scalp showing with this type of hair so I used a pattern similar to what you would do for a sew-in weave. I got the hair from hairstopnshop.com (sounds sketch lol). I didnt have any problems with them.

This girl shows how she does it. I braided my back like hers but my front again is in a circular beehive shape.

This lady has a different type of hair but does a good job doing it herself. I used a crochet hook with a latch on it, she uses one without. I like the latch hook because you can just put the hair in the latch and pull withough worrying about some of the hair getting stuck.
